Tsunku turns out to be a bad man
The apparent translation to the song above, as also seen in the suggestive dance moves, goes something like this:
-(there are a few variations on translation from what ive seen but essentially there all the same evil)-
Non non
Crying won’t make you understand
Non non
That won’t get you anywhere
Non non
So now
Non non
Smile and let's go
When I put a spell on myself
Saying "Look at me now!"
Come on, make my imagination
Grow huge
Brand new blue jeans
Wear them out casually
When I talked about my dreams
I became pretty
A brand new youth
Wear it casually, with style
And, like a bittersweet movie
Tell me love!
All long time
Though I make a lot of noise
Love me! Love me! Love me! Love me!
I really want to do it
Love me too!
Though I make a lot of noise
Love me! Love me! Love me! Love me!
I really want to do it
Love me too!
Non non
I don’t get genuine
Non non
Simple is boring
Non non
It’s all about how you feel
Non non
Don't stop the music
Don’t you need it?
What’s a useless thing?
Let the illumination light up
The road ahead of me
Brand new blue jeans
Get ‘em all dirty
The mystery that starts from there
Is impossible to analyze
A brand new youth
Go all out and have fun
Like it’s a weekend night
Tell me love!
All long time
Though I make a lot of noise
Love me! Love me! Love me! Love me!
I really want to do it
Love me too!
Though I make a lot of noise
Love me! Love me! Love me! Love me!
I really want to do it
Love me too!
Brand new blue jeans
Break them in casually
When I talked about my dreams
I became a babe
Brand new blue jeans
Wear them out casually
When I talked about my dreams
I became pretty
A brand new youth
Wear it casually, with style
And, like a bittersweet movie
Tell me love!
All long time
Though I make a lot of noise
Love me! Love me! Love me! Love me!
I really want to do it
Love me too!
Where would the PMRC place this?
Is Tsunku right or wrong?
Berryz vs ÂșC-ute
Is this a joke?
Its so intense to watch with so much happening and with the songs being absolutely mad.
Is is cause for concern that the audience are either girls with deep voices or dirty old men...hmmm.

Tsunku too sexy for his pants
Documentary on this man? Big hitter in japan pop music. Writes the songs and runs the company that umbrellas a bunch of japanese girl pop groups. maybe similar to the company that did rebecca black etc.
Probably a very interesting carachter to explore.

Nancy Spero
Documentary to watch on Nancy Spero from PBS:
http://video.pbs.org/video/1239788836
For decades, Nancy Spero has drawn from the political to create compelling works of art that make a statement against war, the abuse of power and our male-dominated society. Regarding her paintings made during the Vietnam War, Spero says: “I guess maybe my art can be said to be a protest…The War paintings are certainly a protest because it was done with indignation.” Spero further explains how the politically-inspired work of her late husband, Leon Golub, not only stimulated, but also posed a challenge for her own work. “It was pretty damned difficult contending with someone who was so…brilliant,” she says.

Visualising Time
This is the idea im going with. Here is the making process:
This is the area for working, im using a glass bowl and some mud to start with:
Then im adding a layer aof newspaper over the top to make it stronger to hold the trees etc:
Bang on a layer of pva to make it a proper surface (i peirced hole in the newspaper so the pva sinks through and binds onto the soil):
Here is a shot of the models ill be using:
Getting it all dry in time is an issue, so heres my drying rig to deal with this problem:
I then painted over the PVA base a greeny brown colour mixed with PVA, which made it possible to stick grass on:
Add some buhes and trees and the people and voila:
These are just to make it look complete, i still need to design the landscape better and as you can see from the pic below i have plenty more props to work with:
This is a very brief update as im in a rush to go out so havent explained anything about the project or the point of it. Will sort this out when i have a chance.

Exskellements
This is a little experiment I've been playing around with. The idea is to take control over simple movements, and in this case putting it to music. Instead of just plain stop-motion im trying to see if its possible to control the speed of actions and timing of actions: taking control of the subject as if it were a puppet.
I need to workout the best way to interlink all the actions in order to make something interesting out of this and I think it would have to be a very carefully choreographed thing, but when it works it'll be banging.

YTPMV
FROM URBAN DICTIONARY:
1. YTPMV
See YouTube Poop.
A YTPMV is a music video featuring various clips from tv shows, movies, commercials, etc. repeated or sped up/slowed down to fit to a beat, usually techno.
eg:
YTPMV: Angelos Has QuickTime Pro in His Bag This Week
YTPMV: Kung Fu Cutman!
YTPMV: [Ronald feat. Burger & Fries] singing: Super Mario Bros. Theme.
This is the first time I have ever heared about these. In a way they're fantastic... thats my opinion for now.

Im having another look at these, ive taken two away because they were just awful but have left these up as there is still something about them that im in favour of.
The best way a can analyze it is probably the simillarities these videos have to the acid house sampling days of the 90s. Not my area of speciality but Im aware of the effect that its had on the music we listen to today. At the time (i'd imagine) it probably mirrored the style of these videos. Its almost impossible to see the point and they are a little bit too intense to watch for longer than 2 mins, but i love the idea that people are using whatever tools they have to abuse video and music to create something new. It seems to completely contradict the current 'apple' design aesthetic of keep it simple and I love the harshness of the video in compasison to the uber clean and soft (and almost boring now) canon & dslr videos.
In the most anal way to give an oppinion on things like this, its one of those 'videos for the people', but the best thing its it doesnt seem aware of this and they obviously don't give a s**t about what us outsiders think.

The end of a Dark Magenta week 1
For the past few days (since monday), danny, jack and myself have been making the 'Dark Magenta' trailer.
Ive been up all night trying to link the video to the computer and back to take the HD foootage and distorting it through a tape (street fighter), to give it a 'video nasty' feel. Im not so sure if it works well or if it looks like a youve been framed video, but at least i tried it.
This week has been crazy getting it all done, and there have been some fun ideas thrown about and filmed and we've been very lucky with the weather. The snow helps a lot! I have been up earlly in the mornings trying to find locations, and am giving this project everything. I've been keeping track of all expenses and a note of all contacts and places used.
I also used a casting site and have been inundated with people wanting to take part and act scared, so will probably need to plan some more scenes... and reply to them.... but its good to know there are so many ppeople available at such short notice - only put the ad up friday evening and already have 30 people replied.
Anyway, here is the video test that has been driving me mad tring to do.... as simple as it is and may seem, when your laptop doesnt connect to the tv, and the VCR doesnt connect to much, the whole thing becomes very frustrating!
Anyway, heres the vid that was shot on friday:

LCC Project
My project based on the colour 'dark magenta' from LCC has evolved into me making a trailer for a fantasy film called 'Dark Magenta' similar to the style of an Argento film. It will be a homage to his films and im excited about the outcome. I have spent all day looking for possible locations and buying all the dark magenta coloured props etc i could find. I am calling on a few friends to help out and will take it as it comes. get some tasty shots and see how it evolves...

Stop Motion Puppets
For the past two weeks I have been interning at a production company. While I am here I do have some down time. To fill this time I have been looking into making puppets for stop motion animation.
There are many sites I have been using and I will accumulate all of the really useful ones here. For starters, here is a mould making tutorial...
Maybe quite advanced for a starting point, but this is the stage of casual research that i am at after 2 weeks. I expect that future posts will be related to my practical experience and the research that comes with that.

General update...
I have been editing videos for the mike alexander memorial show. there are 11 to do and ive only got a couple left... ill put the links up when all done and dusted.
Im enjoying the practice although it is quite a lot of stuff and has been taking up a lot more time than planned, especially with awful computer. However, the songs are ace and the shows entertaining so its fun to do, so overall am glad to be doing it!
Today at work i drew a picture of a tiger, and put it through photoshop, messed about with it, and stuck it on a picture of a picture of a tshirt... to make it look like a tshirt:
Its ready for the emptees.com upload if i ever get round to doing that, but for tonight im satisfied pretending it exists.
And finally, here are a few more seconds added onto the pencil animation i'm slowly doing:

Wednesday 9th June
Unfortunately all the paper i had prepared earlier this week, got sectioned off behind a temporary wall. This is was very frustrating for obvious reasons, so this morning was spent trimming all my paper again to A3 getting ready for printing.
After an hour or so printing the flyers, and spending a fair few quid doing it (thank god i made it small and took printing costs into account earlier!), followed by cutting the pannels down to size, having made sure they all align with double sided printing etc.... i finally had the basics.
I have only printed off five flyers, so the idea of 'mass mail' is given accross to some extent, but also didint want to create too much work for myself.
I sellotaped these together and made the envolopes, on whcih i drew my man (so that attention was still directed to what the acctual point of it was) and asked college to run them through the franking machine to get the authentic postage look (a good last minute addition!) and strung them up:
This means i am now finished!
Here is the space where im displaying my work:
And ill put up a picture of the final show when it happens next week!
Evaluation still to do though, should be fine!

Tuesday 8th June
Worked late and well last night so managed to get most of the flyer done, painted the classroom and then finished all the flyer.
Here are the screenshots for each A3 page:
I'm really happy with the way they have turned out, there was a lot of experimentation to get everything quite right, and this was more spur of the moment stuff, but i made sure to pay attention to detailing and to keep the flow of the flyer natural.
My only real worry is my writing skills, which bring the whole project down a few notches, but I'm not really judging myself on that.

After a weekend of stamping and coming up with the copy from the website, i have as follows:
I am happy with this as it keeps with the style of the rest of the project.
Today i have also been continuing with the designs of the flyer and have started to put the DYMO on. Been quite a hectic day as I've been looking for paper and checking my materials.
Also got to show a few friends how my project was coming along and to get some feedback from my target audience. So far so good and they are hugely in support of the DYMO. seems very easy to impress.
One week to go now, and I'm a little over schedule, but I'm still confident that ill have everything finished in time.

Friday 4th June
Not a massive day today as i'm also doing job, but got some detail style for the flyer done and putting it all together in the template. Will show in next update but for now heres the sheet im working with:
I have been deciding on the typography as well, and to keep in with the stationary style of the project, as well as the fact its just fun and 'cool' to look at, i believe i am going with the DYMO tag writing. It also gives the otherwise flat design flyer a bit of texture.... although the flyer obviously isnt flat when it pops out.
Well, i got a busy evening of stamping dymo tags and will reveal all when theyre done!

Wednesday 2nd June
Wow, fortunately another productive day!
I made the posters from the image of the spray painted font of Home Sweet Home and the human outline from my workspace which i grew to love because of its asymetrical form and shabbyness.
I made these posters very simple: black and white and not overstressing the quality of the images, this is so that costs would not be an issue.
I will print these out and put them around the room for the final show to act as a small scale teaser for my main flyer, simulating the cross city teaser linking to the mailout.
In order to illustrate this, i will also be displaying some photos of where the posters would be placed, so photoshopped them in and made them look glitsy to keep with the style of the project:
I'm happy with my progress today as well and will now focus on type, finalising the copy, and producing the flyer packages.

Tuesday 1st June
Today I called up Crisis to inform them of my project and get any tips/permission/copy for the flyer. They were lovely to speak to, but unfortunately unable to help in anyway due to the lack of staff/ time/ effort for another student project involving Crisis. However, they did wish me the best of luck, gave me the permission to use their logo, and forwarded me to their website for any copy.
From their website I found some useful information that I could use as copy and it gave me a good idea of how they like to communicate. You can see their website here: http://www.crisis.org.uk/ to save me from repeating any of the stats.
I also had a go at the images for the sheets of card for the flyer. I am using the ink technique used for the Rorschach style prints as i quite like the grunginess of it, it also helps incorprate the work done ppreviously that i liked both the style of and also the idea that there is more than meets the eye to homelessness. Its very hidden and wont be known by the audience, but it adds a nice depth to the work which i am happy with.
Here is an image of the working:
I then cut this A1 sheet into A4 size to scan it into the computer, where I could load it into an A3 workspace which will act as the template for the individual pannels of the flyer.
Here is the example of what i mean:
Im still deciding on font and there are a few details that need to be sorted out, but all in all im happy with how its going and am happy for my schedule and excited about getting to the finish.
